Slow Loading Desktop

by aro1210 / August 12, 2009 9:40 AM PDT

Hello i was wondering if anyone could help me out wiv my slow loading desktop, it takes about 7min to load up after the splash screen, its a problem that has only happened in the past 2 days so i canont think what the problem could be.

In my computer i have a AMD athlon 64 x2 dual core processor4200+ 2.21GHz, 2Gb of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT graphics card, i have put down my spec only to provide more information as i know it may be a hardware problem.

I have also ran Checkdisk repair, Defrag, Ccleaner and Spybot search and destroy to see if doing any of these would resolve the problem which is didnt =/.

if anyone can give me any advice i would b very greatful, any hints or tips on how to solve or improve the speed of the desktop loading.

(i am very sorry for my poor grammar and prob spelling mistakes :P)

recent?

If this slow-down suddenly started recently then it would be an idea to make sure all your security software is fully up to date and then run full system scans. If you have a lot of software installed, you can prevent the uneccessary ones from auto-starting (things like the software suite for your printer for example, MSN Messenger etc) as having too many apps all trying to start at the same time can slow things down. You can do this by going to start>run>typing "msconfig" and clicking on the start-up tab in the window that appears. Uncheck any software you don't routinely require. If you're not sure what something is, leave it, it might be important! You will have to restart your pc and you will get a message about using the system configuration utility when it restarts, just check the box and click OK

do you have a cluttered desktop or large-sized files on your desktop? They can also be the culprit.
