Question

simple camera for a trip to paris!!

by lblaszka / September 15, 2013 1:04 PM PDT

hi all, i am in the market for a digital camera to take on a trip to Paris/Belgium next month. i haven't purchased a camera in many years, and i am overwhelmed by the selections. i am trying to work within a budget ($200 MAX . . less being better!!) but my needs are basic, so i think it can be done.

(please, now pardon the lack of proper technical terms, as i attempt to explain what i AM looking for.) having visited a few european cities in my day, i know that i need a camera that will "push things back" and allow me to capture a wide view range of what is close to my face. (hahhahah! i know i butchered that.) . . .conversely, i will be capturing architectural details, so i would like to have a great zoom. (perhaps a suggestion as to what to look for in a zoom -- i mean i see cameras that say 20x zoom -- is this super good?)

i would prefer something WITHOUT gps, wifi, in-camera editing (don't mind bringing stuff into photoshop). i think the panorama features are cool, but it's not a deal breaker for me. what else?? ...maybe some flash for interior shots of churches. and lastly i should mention, i don't feel like a fully manual option will do me much good, since i really just want to "point and shoot", so to speak.

to summarize, i guess i'm looking for something basic with few frills and good zoom. any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

. . .it is very important that the camera is compact and streamline -- and will fit in a small-ish pocket in my bag. Happy
