Question

silent mode on Galaxy devices....

by christy / April 4, 2013 12:50 PM PDT

I have the Galaxy Ace Plus... and the Galaxy Tab 10.1...

When sound is disabled, it is not really disabled, it is only that sound is set to Volume "0". This is because sound can be activated if the volume control at the side is accidentally pressed.... This can cause embarrassment....... Is it possible to disable sound/volume completely.... or deactivate volume control ?

Thank you.

Hi christy,

Thanks for your question. The volume control sounds like it's operating normally. I don't think most people would like to have to go into settings to find an unmute option to get their audio back; most would like to just press volume up. Perhaps there is some app on the Google Play store that can override this feature. I found one that always allows certain phone numbers to ring through regardless of the phone's volume settings.

Disabling audio

My wish is for an option to be able to disable/enable sound like an app. As it is, the volume control is causing too many heads to turn ......

Hi christy,

While the native OS may not offer this option, I would check the Google Play store for an app that might offer those features: https://play.google.com/store/apps

Firmware update ?

In reply to: Re: disabling audio

Thanks for the suggestion... Perhaps SAMSUNG can offer this for future models, and a firmware update for older ones....e.g. V+volume control to disable...and V+volume control again to enable. When disabled, volume is at "0" and volume control has no effects...and while enabled, volume control works as such. Notification area to provide the status...
