Answer
Here I change the sort by clicking on the column name.

You are right that a drop down menu didn't show it. Are you saying this is a defect or omission to leave it out of the drop down?

My search problem
by dragonmaelstrom / December 15, 2012 1:06 AM PST

If I put the search results into detail view i can sort them by name, date modified etc but the are always arranged by 'date modified' if i click on the drop down menu everything is greyed out but date modified and clear changes which only changes the detail view
As far as I can guess something has changed in the registry which i am comfortable in modifying

No search problem here.

In reply to: My search problem

I never used a drop down menu since clicking on the columns works.

I see no story about registry cleaners or such to clue me into what's up but on a stock Windows 7 machine I can sort without the drop down menu.

-> Let's say it's busted. If you can't find what's busted what about using another search tool like EVERYTHING?

the searching is ok for me
by dragonmaelstrom / December 15, 2012 1:54 AM PST

i said the registry because everything that's to do with the computer is most of the time somewhere in there but it only happens in the libraries folder now i have thought that my messing with the library folders to add network folders might have something to do with it but it works properly when i search starting from anywhere else
if it is busted as you say i would like to be able to fix it if possible because i donit need to know which is the earlier file its just looks bad

It appears that it's true. I blew it when I missed the word LIBRARIES. I use EVERYTHING for searching and it's a non-issue in that tool.

Maybe someone fixed it but the first few reads were not encouraging.

No I blew it by missing the one word.
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / December 15, 2012 2:27 AM PST

I supplied a search on the issue and it's true. I don't see the issue in EVERYTHING (the search app) and I don't use Libraries since my work is across PCs and well, it's broke or does not exist in XP, Vista, and other machines. EVERYTHING works on all the PCs at the office so no reason to look elsewhere.

Again, I'm sorry I missed that word in your first post. You asked the right question but I blew it.
