Examine the hidden system file boot.ini in the root directory of your primary drive. Add a second line for the VISTA operating system and increase the timeout.
Ok...first my system's info:
Pent. 4 w/HyperThreading,Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2, 3.00GHz, 2GB RAM, 1 Western Digital SATA 80GB HDD & 1 Seagate IDE 300GB HDD, LiteOn SuperAllWrite LightScribe Dual-Layer DVD/CD RW drive. Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 V-Card.
(My Gigabyte motherboard has Both SATA and IDE ports, (2) of each)
I'll try to give as much Detail as possible on the Subject listed.
This PC came with the WD SATA 80GB HDD.
I purchased the Seagate IDE 300GB HDD to give me additional storage.
Using the trial version of Acronis to ''Exact copy''(my words) the 80GB to the 300GB, BOTH booted fine.
(Here's the strange part)
I'm trying to recall what happened about 2 months ago...(I think I got a B.S.O.D.), anyhow, I called a really good Techie buddy who suggested I Reset the BIOS by temporarily removing (for about 1 minute), then re-installing that ''Button-cell'' battery on the motherboard.
Now, (and for about the last 2 months) when I boot-up, the P.O.S.T looks ok, but then is gives a 2-line message of:
''Primary Master <SATA Device Not Found>''
''Secondary Master (WD's HDD info here)''
Other than that, it boots up Fine!
Now, when I go to ''My Computer'', Both drives appear. And under each HDD's (Right-click) on Property, a click on the ''General'' tab, I see the correct amount of memory on each drive.
However, under the ''Hardware'' tab, when selecting each drive on the list, the WD 80GB's location gives Bus Number 0, ID 2, LUN O.
While the Seagate gives Location 0 (0)
Using Avast!, it SCANS both drives too... ''C''= the 80GB first scan, then ''E''= 300GB next.
WinXP Home is currently on both drives.
I've backed up the 300 drive.
What I want to do is Wipe it, partion it, and install Vista on it as a Dual Boot system.
Is it possible to have my PC give me a CHOICE to which drive I want to begin my boot from upon installing these versions of Windows?
I'm open to ANY info I can on this ''issue.''
Thanks in advance.
