Samsung volume not working due to headphone jack

by sadams90210 / January 31, 2013 12:27 PM PST

We have a 32" 4 year old Samsung tv. Recently the sound would go in and out. We plugged in a headphone jack & wiggled it around and pulled it back out and the main sound would come back on. It was once in a while before. Now its all the time and much more difficult to get the sound to kick back in. Any tips? thanks!

Does that jack work? I can't find which TV this is but maybe the cheap fix is a sound bar?

Solution Samsung volume not working to headphone Jack
by 19Anita59 / December 22, 2013 4:10 AM PST

We had no sound on our TV, and at the top of the volume bar on our TV was showing the headphone icon, and it couldn't be changed back to the speaker icon. After searching for a solution on the internet, someone said it could be a malfunctioning headphone jack. Although we have never used the jack, we plugged into it, and did get sound over the headphones, but when we pulled it out, no sound again. My husband stuck a toothpick in and wiggled it (as per a suggestion online), sometimes we got sound for a few seconds, but it quickly went out. He decided to spray some contact cleaner into the jack, then stuck a stick in it, WE GOT SOUND!! He pulled out the stick, and we still have sound, though it's only been about 10 minutes, maybe it'll work, maybe not. I say maybe not, b/c as I was writing this, the sound went out again. We might need service to replace the jack after all.
