Samsung TV has horizontal black line across it

by RockinRobbie77 / October 25, 2012 5:39 PM PDT

I have a Samsung Plasma SP-S4223 and just recently a thin horizontal black line appeared on my tv. The tv was not dropped or moved in any way. It just appeared one day. Does this mean my screen is gone or can it be fixed? And if so, is this a costly fix? My tv is not that old and has not been used very much. Sad

Hi RockinRobbie77,

I'm very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. The easiest way to see if this is a problem with the TV or with an external source is to turn on the TV's menu. If the line is behind the menu, then contact the external source manufacturer, as it's probably due to the external source. If the line cuts through the menu still, then it'll need servicing. Here's the thread where you can get details on setting that up:

Worn Out Issue
by Sailfish3 / February 10, 2013 1:03 AM PST

Ahhhhhhhh! I have the 50" PN50B860Y2F that I purchased in March 2010. I did all the research, gorgeous picture and got it as a birthday present. The dreaded horizontal black lines showed up at 1.5 years. Customer service performed exactly as every review and thread depicts only worse. They were inexcusably rude even from moment 1. The out of warranty process began with a site visit. The verdict was "bad panel". That is a thousand bucks plus or minus. The technician told me to go buy a new TV. At that point I went back to Samsung customer service and asked if I could purchase the parts at cost (or close). This conversation turned ugly driven by their rudeness and they hung up on me after telling me that I should purchase a new TV and if they were in my shoes, would purchase a different brand. WOW! Whoever directs this group needs to go to "Charm" school and then send his/her people. The experience was actually shocking even being prepared for it. The boards are inexpensive for these TV's as they age and I took a last ditch effort to fix by replacing the boards before tossing the unit in the trash (recycler). Sadly (very sadly), it is the panel... I loved it while it lasted but we are progressively up to about 20 lines and just can't live with it anymore. If a panel is available in expensively, I might still give it a go but that is the story. Moral to the story.... Purchase the extended warranty, keep you expectations lower than the "old" days, avoid Samsung products.
