Samsung Flight / AT&T Text messaging problem

by arbowser / December 16, 2009 5:21 AM PST

Has anyone experienced this before....

I receive 3-4 texts a week from #32623 ~ have been for years ~ never a problem with my old LG Shine or Razrs. It's just the hockey score, nothing fancy - no pics, videos, web links, dancing reindeer...nothing - just the score of the game.

Last week I got a new Samsung Flight and have had major texting issues. The incoming texts work for a while, but then suddenly stop completely. (Outgoing texts still work fine during this time) AT&T Customer Service & Technical support have gone on a wild fishing expedition trying to figure out the problem. I have spent countless hours on the phone with them. In the past 7 days I have had 3 new Flights, 2 new SIM cards, done many master resets, powered on/off/on/off/on again, verified provisioning, message centers, routing numbers, IMEI, etc.

Whenever I receive a text from the above # - I don't get that text, and all texts after that. It gums up the works. I can take my SIM card out, place it in another AT&T phone (not samsung), receive the missing 32623 text (plus all others that have come in since then).....this essentially "clear the pipes" and my texts begin working again - I can put my card back in my phone. All is well until the next text from 32623 - and it all starts again. Technical Support thinks I'm crazy and it's completely irrelevant that it only happens when I get texts from this one number. To me it's clearly a compatibility issue between the network and the phone/manufacturer.

AT&T has now referred me over to Samsung stating it is a manufacturer device issue & they need to send out a software update.

Has anyone experiened anything similar?

The only options I see are to get a different phone (Not Samsung) or stop receiving texts from that number. It's a shame, I was really starting to like the Flight.

Text problem...
by crod2000 / December 16, 2009 1:13 PM PST

i have this same problem. I bought the phone on monday and have had incoming text problems since. I called AT&T and they said it was some problem with the verizon and t-mobile network communications with AT&T. I thought it was the phone since it never happened before so i put my sim back in my old AT&T phone and instantly received all the texts (50 of them) that I didn't get the past two days. Bottom line is its the phone so i'm returning it tomorrow. Hope this helps!

Receive texts 3 days later with Samsung Flight
by dano63 / January 2, 2010 7:53 AM PST

My problem is that when I send a text, it takes 3 days to get my reply. And it doesn't matter if I'm texting someone on Verizon or AT&T. I, too, have been on the phone countless hours with AT&T trying to rectify the problem with no success. I think samsung needs to look into this and fix the problem. It's an awesome phone, but this can be irritating at the least. If someone knows how to fix this problem, please respond.

Response from Samsung :(
by arbowser / January 5, 2010 10:14 AM PST

I opened a Ticket with Samsung Technical support when I first posted this. (Ticket # 116615388 - In case anyone @ Samsung sees this).

I have been told today, BY A SAMSUNG EMPLOYEE, that I should take advantage of the 30 day return window and BUY A DIFFERENT BRAND of phone. I was completely floored that they would say this!!!!

Clearly, this is a non-issue for Samsung and it is not being looked into.

Known Issue
by jtkstc / January 15, 2010 4:22 AM PST

I just got off the phone with ATT and they are calling it an issue with the a797. SMS alerts stop the SMS function from working. They said Samsung is working on a fix.
