Question

Safari won't "Quit"

by LolaAngell33 / May 7, 2013 2:02 AM PDT

I like to restart my MacBook occasionally. This morning, Safari won't quit and I can't shut down or restart unless it does. What can I do?

Thanks, Old Granny Lola

that should bring up a small window.
Click on Safari and then click on Force Quit.

If it still refuses to go away, hold down the power button on your Mac until it shuts down.

Restart as normal after that

Restart twice

According to Apple you're supposed to restart twice after shutting down with the power button. Something about not having everything lined up after a power button shutdown. Maybe somebody else knows exactly why, or has the time to do the research at Apple's website.

Also, you can find "Force Quit" on the Apple Menu (apple icon leftmost on the top menu.) May be easier to remember than command+option+esc.

Do we still need to "Zap the Pram" on a MacBook Pro? That used to solve a few problems for me with my iMac.

I had the same problem and Safari became incredibly slow. I couldn't even use Force Quit to shut down. But found that the problem, for me, is in plug-ins. So go to Safari Preferences and switch off plug-ins and then check what's happening. I found that all the problems went.
You can then reintroduce any plug-ins ad check which caused the probs.
