The most common cause at the moment for red x'es is a site blocked in the hosts file. So start with a forum search with subject HOSTS and author Grif Thomas for all details about this.
If no luck, search the common factor by right clicking on the blank picture and studying the url. My own IE mysteriouskly refused to display png's only, and that could be remedied by a repair of IE.
Regarding Adobe: can you right click>save as on such a link and then open the saved file either from Explorer or from Adobe Reader itself?
Perhaps one of you can help.

Problem: Although I have Adobe Acrobat 6.0, when I call up a PDF file online, it doesn't open and I get the red x in a small box in the upper left corner. What gives?
Also, some "pics" will not display. I get a circle with a slash through it (the international stop sign). Not all pics, just some.
Could these issues be related? Are they due to anti-spam, spyware, anti-virus, or ? Suggestions anyone?
