by ASC92 / March 10, 2012 10:41 AM PST

Hi,

I've a 500GB external hard disk and it just died all of a sudden. My Computer is not reading it although i tried it on all the USB ports. I also tried it on other laptops and it doesn't show up on My Computer.

How do i recover files from the hard disk even though its dead. Is it possible?

Dead Hard Drive

There are companies that will attempt to recover your data, but it is very expensive. Search the web for some ideas for a cheap fix. Some recommend freezing the drive for a while, some recommend heating. Any drive containing important data should be backed up.
