Purple band across the top of PN58C550

by drwpearce / November 23, 2012 4:48 AM PST

TV is almost two years old. Just recently noticed a purplish band about 3-4 inches wide across the top of the TV screen against scenes with a white background. Did some internet searches and found that this seems to be a common problem with Samsung plasmas. Will require replacement of the panel for $995 which is what I paid for the TV originally. Definitely will not go with Samsung again if I have to replace this one after only two years. Anyone else have this issue and how was it resolved?

Disgusted with my Samsung Plasma
by ozzybucks1972oh / September 28, 2013 8:04 AM PDT

I have the exact same problem with my TV, which is now about 3 years old. I paid around $1500 for it new and I can't bring myself to replace it. It started about a year ago with a small purple band on the bottom of the screen. It was very noticable with a white background, but when I looked very close I could see that the purple band was always there. Fast forward to now and there is a large purplish band on the bottom, top and middle of the screen. It makes watching TV almost unbearable, knowing that I paid so much for this TV. I've googled a lot of forums and find that replacing the screen is the usual solution. I've searched several parts sites and see prices at around $1200.

If anyone is thinking of purchasing a Samsung Plasma TV, please consider that you may have to replace it 2 to 3 years later.
