Question

Problem with sound from speakers

by Karts22 / March 20, 2013 8:51 PM PDT

I have a Dell N5010 with Win7 64bit.
My problem is that every time I start my laptop with earphones plugged in (even if waking from hibernation) and then remove the earphones, the speakers won't work. Can anyone guess what might be the problem?
Thank

Answer
So if you don't have the headphones in, it's fine?

That points to a non-hardware issue. And you would load the drivers in the order as noted by the laptop maker.
Keep in mind there are thousands of laptops so this instruction is specific to make and model.

Updated audio driver and codec but still the problem persists

There should be other drivers involved.

You'll have to ask Dell but when I tackle this one I use System Restore to when it worked.

Why? Because the most common cause is Windows Update and the owner accepting a driver from Microsoft.

What other drivers? The motherboard, chipset drivers as well as Dell's Quickset app.
I can't guess if there are more but these are the usual.
