"disc one got to 100% and a popup appeared asking if i wanted to view files or run info.exe - HUH??"
I know this one. The recovery disk creator has a software bug. Even today the software authors leave such bugs to confound the owners.
Since you tried and failed to create the restore media it is now a Warranty Issue. Call Dell and ask for the restore media FREE of charge since they left a bug in the restore media creation software.
i am trying to create recovery discs for a dell inspiron 1750 with windows 7 operating system using dell datasafe local backup basic edition.
1st thing it made me do was to use the power cord and not run on battery power - CHECK!
next thing it did was told me to use either a usb or two blank dvds. i verified which type of dvd was compatible and inserted a DVD-R into the drive. the disc creation began - CHECK!
disc one got to 100% and a popup appeared asking if i wanted to view files or run info.exe - HUH??
i didnty want to do anything, but wait for the message to insert disc 2 so i closed that popup. after a few seconds the dvd drive popped open and a message appeared to insert disc 2. CHECK!
after disc 2 was inserted the backup window says "creating disc 2 of 2", however there is a twirling circle in the window still saying "insert blank recordable disc now". i have tried 3 DVDs and cannot get passed this point. i know the discs are blank as i bought and opened the DVDs for just this purpose.
what is going on? did i screw up by closing the popup to view files or run info.exe??? i am now out of DVDs so i guess i waisted that money and now need to go buy more, but i would like to know if there is a better way to create these stupid things so i dont go thru another set of them.
i tried posting to the dell forum, but couldnt navigate through there at all - and ive posted to there many times!
is it cuz its april fools day? GGGRRRrrrrr........
any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
ps: this is not my 1st dell computer or 1st time creating recovery discs, but it is the 1st time ive ever had problems. AARRGGHHHH!!!!
