Possible upgrades for my dell Inspiron 3520

by USNAggie44 / February 12, 2013 6:45 AM PST

I want to upgrade my laptop. I was wondering if anyone could help me with the possible upgrades I could have done. Some upgrades I would like are:
Graphic's card (current is Intel(r) HD Graphics 3000 1664 mb)
Ram (current is 4 gb)
Processor (current is Intel core i3-2350 2.3ghz)

Thanks for the help, I have a Inspiron 3520 and if you could just post some possible options. Thanks.

And since this model does not offer video upgrades (most laptops don't) you should forget the upgrades and consider a new PC or gaming console.

You can upgrade memory

and the hard drive. You could also upgrade the processor which wouldn't help much for games. Now what you have is the 2nd generation Intel i series processor. Each generation of the i series processor has better built in Intel graphics capabilites. I'm not sure if you could upgrade to the 3rd generation but I know the 4th generation won't be compatible when it comes out.

Intel released the i7 4th generation first and those are available now with more and more models coming out. Dell just released 3 new Alienware laptops (14", 17.3" and 18.4") all with the 4th generation intel processors plus a discrete graphics card.

Your options are limited. You can upgrade you current system to run faster but you won't be able to help with gaming. Like someone posted Alienware specializes in gaming machines and since the new machines came out you might see the older one's at closeout price if the new models are beyond your price range.

I have the same laptop. I asked my brother if I could upgrade anything on my laptop and he said just take it apart. So we did and there is a extra space for more ram. The ram stick is located under the keyboard and the keyboard pops out. You can youtube that if you would like on how to take that apart. There is a slight difference in the processor. Mine is and i3-2370m and it runs at 2.4 GHz. But the body style should be the same and for the processor I'm not sure yet if there is room for an upgrade. Of course getting a SSD would make it slightly faster but they are usually expensive. The ram i bought was $41 and here is where i got it and as for gaming on this laptop, i don't have any problems gaming, i can run League of Legends with little to no lag at all with only 4 gigs of ram let alone 8. Good luck gaming!
