PC Audio sounds hollow

by cookrd1 / December 30, 2004 11:00 PM PST

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with WXP Pro. This uses the Avance AC97 Audio.

A few days ago, the sound started to sound like it was coming from the "bottom of a barrel" whenver I listened to internet radio streams and also the Windows sounds. It sounds this way using either Real Audio or Windows Media Player 10.

The only thing that has changed is that several days ago my volume contol icon mysteriously disappeared. I tracked this down to a missing sndvol32.exe program that I retrieved from my backup file.

I have tried everything I can think of. There does not appear to be any software adjustments that I can find. I thought it may be something in a mixer but I don't see anything there.

Thanks, Bob

My guess would be that somehow the bass level of your sound settings got turned all the way down. This will produce a pretty hollow sounding sound.
