OTA Channel Info disappears from Smart TV Channel Guide.

by nsx1 / June 15, 2013 5:39 AM PDT

I just purchased the UN55F8000. I do NOT have cable or satellite providers. I get all my channels from DTV broadcast signals (OTA) with an exterior roof-mounted antenna. There are several instances when there is "No Information" shown in the Channel Guide. If I reset the TV, go through setup and go directly to the Guide without changing channels with the remote, the guide will first search all broadcasts for channel information... results: "No Information". If I exit the Guide and change channels using the remote up/down buttons until I see the correct information on the momentary display (on the right side)... then go to the Guide, all channel information appears. The other instance is if I plug in a USB drive (I've tried several), the Guide (which was showing information before) then shows "No Information" for ALL channels. I fix it the same way as mentioned above. This seems to be a F/W issue.

Hi nsx1,

I'm sorry to hear about your issue. The TV takes a few moments to gather information after initial setup; this includes setup after a reset. Additionally, when you initially power on the TV, it'll take up to a minute to gather information for over-the-air channels. So in your two cases, is it immediately after power up you're doing this navigating?

No. I give the TV plenty of time to scan whatever information it needs. The TV appears to scan for program information only when I go into the Guide. You can see the Guide scanning and building the Guide program information.

I have only had this TV for a few days. In the time since I posted this problem in this forum, about 40% of the time when I go to the guide, it scans and shows "No Information" for every channel. I will go to the Guide often (every couple minutes).

Once, the Guide showed "No Information", I exited the Guide, then went back to the Guide, and all the information was there (no scanning delay). Several times, while I was in the Guide (and the information was showing), I scrolled down using the channel down button on the remote to see other channels and all the programs showed up "grayed out" (i.e. I could not select programs), even though they were upcoming shows... when I scrolled back (with the channel button), the program information was back to normal (non-gray).

I have discovered something... I live in Grants Pass, Oregon and receive only DTV broadcast channels... 5.1, 5.2, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 10.1, 10.2, 12.1, 12.2, 30.1, and 30.2. I ONLY get the "No Information" in the Guide when I go to the Guide while watching 5.1 or 5.2. The Guide is fully populated with all the correct channelinformation if I go to the Guide from any other channel. Here is the steps I performed when first turning on the TV.

1) while watching 5.1, select Guide, Guide scans channels and builds the Guide information, shows "No Information" for all channels.
2) select 5.2 using Guide.
3) while watching 5.2, select Guide, Guide immediately shows "No Information" for all channels. (no scanning)
4) select 8.1 using Guide.
5) while watching 8.1, select Guide, Guide immediately shows all the correct channel information. (no scanning)
6) select 5.1 using Guide.
7) while watching 5.1, select Guide, Guide immediately shows "No Information" for all channels. (no scanning)
Cool select 8.1 using Guide.
9) while watching 8.1, select Guide, Guide immediately shows all the correct channel information. (no scanning)

The Guide works perfectly while watching any channel except 5.1 and 5.2. While watching 5.1 and 5.2, the Guide always shows "No Information".

Hi nsx1,

Thanks for the additional info and testing you did. One guess is that you have a few stations that aren't transmitting the meta data on their digital signals. I'm going to request that you email me so that I can have the product specialist look into this, and he'll have your contact info if he needs to contact you. To email me, go here and click the email link: http://www.cnet.com/profile/Samsung_HD_Tech/

By the way, beautiful country around there. Happy
