(a) if you let it continue, then immediatelt run chkdsk (again) from the command prompt (that's chkdsk c: + enter)
(b) if you let it continue, then immediately shut down and reboot
I have been getting a message when I turn on my PC that says "one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. " and then "NTFS" and "C". Then it tells me I can cancel the disk checking by pressing any key, but that it is strongly recommended I continue- I have let it continue several times before, but I have never gotten any further information. So I always press a key to cancel it, and go on about my business. It hasn't seemed like anything else is amiss but today I tried to use system restore and after it went through the whole process, restart and everything, the screen said no changes were made to my computer and the system could not be restored. I am not much of a computer expert, I would really appreciate any help you could give me. I am running windows XP (home, service pack 3) and filesclab firewall (free edition), avast antivirus (free edition), and spyware blaster (also free edition). Thank you for any help you can provide.
