Old emails missing from outlook - autoarchive problem?

by did2 / January 31, 2008 1:10 AM PST

Hi all. When I first got my laptop I created an archive and periodically moved old emails into folders in the archive. I had AutoArchive turned on, but I always clicked Cancel when prompted, so I didn't think that it ever actually ran.

Lately, however, when looking for some old emails, I haven't been able to find them. I checked my inbox, and it seems my messages only go back to about three months ago and stop abruptly - this corresponds to the criteria I have set for autoarchive, so I assume that it actually HAS been running.

The problem, though, is that I still can't find those old emails! I have no idea where in the archive they might be. There is no Archive folder, and there is nothing in the Inbox under that Archive. I have a very complex system of subfolders in this archive, so it would be enormously difficult for me to search each one, but I don't see why autoarchive would arbitrarily choose one of those folders in which to deposit these old emails. Any ideas where old my emails went?

Nevermind

Nevermind, I figured it out. The emails get cleared off my email server periodically, so I guess they are gone forever Sad My own fault I suppose...

Better make this a new thread in stead of hijacking an unrelated one from 5 years ago.

Go to http://forums.cnet.com/computer-help-forum/ and start over. And be sure to tell more than you do now, and leave out your email address, because that only attracts spam.

MS Outlook and a gmail-address are an uncommon combination. Are you sure you have MS Outlook? What version.
