No sound from laptop to TV with HDMI

by pherrlin / August 29, 2007 10:05 PM PDT

Just bought a Vaio FZ11Z which is great with BluRay etc. However, have connected the HDMI cable from the laptop to the Plasma TV and picture and display shows great but the sound is not transfering to the TV, only playing on the laptop. Does anyone know the settings change etc I need to make please?

If you don't have the owner's manual and the laptop is not listed at the Sony site how should anyone know. I was simply stating a fact.

In closing I might ask:

Is the manual located on the hard drive somewhere?

Have you looked anywhere on the net?

Have you called Sony support?

You didn't mention the laptop is sold only in Europe.

Oh, wait, what's this?: TV out type S-Video + HDMI 1.2 supporting HDCP. Look familiar?

What a shame you waited this long, it took me about 4 minutes to find this http://support.vaio.eu/manuals/manuals.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&m=2667

These forums are free and we help when we can. Sometimes we do the legwork, sometimes we try to point the person in the right direcetion. For you I've done both. Read the link. BTW, page 166 of the User's Manual has some interesting information.

Good luck.

1) Close your application stream audio
2) Open the Control panel , Set HDMI output as default output in the "Sound" configuration.
3) Open the application and stream your audio again.

Fixed another one like this. Went to control panel, sounds, playback, clicked on HDMI sound and then the Set Default button.

Remember this area is not standardized so while I fixed this on a Vista machine your machine may use another path to get sound to HDMI.

laptop to tv via hdmi sound missing

Thank you for your advice regarding the control panel /hardware and sounds. While my windows 7 64 bit HP did not have anything that said hdmi, when the hdmi was hooked to it, it gave me a choice of making the Sony tv the default when it is connected. So now I have great sound. You were a very good help. Saved a call to India.

I am also having this problem...however I have been told of the setting HDMI output as default: here in lies the rub...it will not allow me to do so. I tried HP's support and they were not helpful. They had me do a couple of tasks that seemed to be unrelated and then restart the laptop...this did not solve my problem. Can anyone help? Thank you in advance

laptop to tv hdmi - no sound

In reply to: HDMI No Sound

I have a Toshiba laptop with windows 7 and a Samsung LCD connected with HDMI cable. Recently there is no sound from TV speakers - only from laptop while the picture is OK. Setting the Realtec Digital Output as Default turns off the PC speakers but the TV remains silent. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I recently was doing some research on how to do this and I found that you have to change these settings.

1) Lots of vald attempts here to help that didn't work for me.
2) Your's did.
3) I just had to thank you so much that I became a member of the c|net community to do so.
4) I just get so infuriated (I've had recent "repairs" performed on my laptop which de-activated the HDMI audio, which used to play just fine) that I need to see a therapist to get over this.
5) Reading other peoples frustrations over these types of things really does help a lot.
6) Thanks to all very much-"R3dmist", you especially, because your anwer wound up being the one that worked for me.

HP to Panasonic HDMI Sound missing
by bradeno / January 3, 2011 6:28 PM PST
In reply to: Just sharing.

Hi there bud,

You seem to have had great success with others similat to this so thought i'd ask you if you could help me...
I tried what you said, went to Control Panel, Sounds, Playback. But when I get there, there is no HDMI sound to click on. Only Speakers and Realtek Audio. Do you know of any other ways I can get my HDMI to work? Using HP Pavillion DV6000 PC, using Vista, and viewing on Panasonic Viera Plasma.

Kind regards,

Braden
