Question

Nikon Cool pix p500

by buslady54 / July 28, 2012 12:29 PM PDT

I need advise. I took my sd card out of the camera to view pictures. When I went to put it back in, it would not "click" down into the camera. Anyone have any advise? I know it was put in correctly but it will not stay down in.

I have never had that happen (nor heard of it happening).

I would first double check with the camera User Manual and verify that you are inserting the card correctly.
I would also try a different memory card as it is possible that some physical damage has occurred to your present memory card.

You could also check with Nikon Service to see if they have encountered such a failure.
They may have encountered one and have a solution.

Thanks, I have tried several cards with the same result. I will give Nikon a call to see if they have any ideas. I have never had this problem before......;(

The SD card slot is not only an electrical socket with contacts but a small spring plus latch miniature mechanical wonder device (as in a wonder you don't see more fail.)

Example but not exact at http://www.faqs.org/patents/imgfull/20110250772_05

When these fail you hope the maker will swap the camera as no maker I know replaces the card slot. As you can see, a lot of tiny parts so be sure to never force the card into place.

Thanks. I figured that is what failed. I just need to send it in. Just bites that I have important pictures to take this weekend. Sad I will line up other cameras. The camera is still under warrenty but the reciept is being sneeky at my house. I did however by it with my credit card.......that should help if I can't find it.
