New Pope to be Canadian?

Could next pope be a Canadian?

MONTREAL - News of Pope Benedict's surprise retirement rekindled speculation that high-ranking Cardinal Marc Ouellet, former archbishop of Quebec City, could be named the first-ever pope from the Western Hemisphere.

Ouellet, 68, is prefect of the Vatican Congregation for Bishops, the body that appoints bishops around the world. He was seen as a potential pontiff since prior to the 2006 death of his mentor, John Paul II.

Bookmakers wasted no time Monday in setting the Canadian's odds of replacing Benedict.

The new pope is not likely to be a Muslim.

Nothing will be for certain until the white smoke rises. Then the spin and conjecture can start all over. Hopefully this will serve to distract them from mugging other people for a while.
