New DVD Player to receiver hookup

by izzy765 / July 13, 2013 1:44 AM PDT

Purchased a new dvd player that doesn't have an optical output, only hdmi that goes to the tv and a set of red & white rca cable outputs, need to get it into the audio receiver for the sound system, the geek squad had us connected via and optical cable to the old dvd player and it worked fine, hooking it up with the rca cables causes echoes, what do I do since there isn't the same hookup on each thing???

Sounds right.

Newer players would be setup and supply what is used for today's receivers. That is, HDMI -> RECEIVER -> HDTV.

If you have older gear that doesn't do this then you need to be very careful about what player you purchase.

I've heard of LIP SYNC issues with older setups but echoes? That's very odd and unexpected.

Your dvd player have hdmi?

I know none of my old dvd player have those connection. The reason is obvious because there is no need for it. I also think most receiver have only one optical input connection. I would not want to waste it on my dvd player. The solution I think would be to get a BD player instead of a dvd player instead.
