My wired 360 controller is having random fits.

by Xeameres / October 18, 2012 2:38 PM PDT

It's basically what the title says. I'm playing my steam games using my wired 360 controller. It's an actual Microsoft controller, white, and about 2 years old. What happens is that during one of these 'fits', whenever I use the Left or Right Triggers, my controller will disconnect and reconnect after about a half-second. This didn't start until I began playing Dishonored the day it came out.

Ever since then, my controller would have these fits for a minute or two, disconnecting and reconnecting whenever I touched the triggers. This happens across all my games, and it's pretty inconvenient. Borderlands 2, Dishonored, Saints Row: The Third, any that use the trigger buttons alot. It then stops, and, like a very moody child, comes back later when you least expect it, and at a very inconvenient time. I checked to see if it was the controller itself by playing my actual 360 with it, but I didn't encounter any issues. I also tried downloading the most recent PC drivers for the 360 controllers, and it didn't work either.

My controller throws fits and disconnects from my PC when I use the triggers, and then stops throwing the fit for a while. I don't think it's the controller itself, because I haven't altered it and it worked fine on my 360. Downloading the drivers didn't help either so I'm at a loss, and would very much appreciate some assistance in this matter.

If it makes any difference

If it makes any difference, sometimes, when reconnecting, it also randomly reconnects as a player two controller, even though I don't have any other controllers plugged in.

Reinstall the drivers

You could try to reinstall the drivers.
If you have already tried that you could try playing with another controller if you have one and see if it is a problem with that specific controller or perhaps your PC.
