My new hard drive is labeled wrong and I can't change it...

by jbow52 / October 8, 2004 10:10 AM PDT

My C drive in my Dell Deminsion 8300 crashed and they replaced it, in less than 24 hours on site, but...now it is no longer my C drive it is now my F drive and what used to be my D drive is now my C drive, my first CDRom is now my D drive...

I need the drive that was replaced to be my C drive, it holds the OS and the programs. The drive that is currently labeled "C" is my data drive.

So far windows will not allow me to change the letters...however, I tried at first to rename the drives and ended up with this "Local Disk (C:)(F:) and Local Disk (F:)(C:)

I can't change that back to one letter.

Help.

Julien

Please ask Dell how to fix this. Here's why.

XP doesn't allow you to change the OS drive letter. To have it be the C: drive, I have to remove other hard disks, ZIP drives, wipe the drive and install the OS.

Maybe Dell has another answer.

Maybe I can do that. but...if I unplug the "a" drive, "d" drive and both the DVD and the CDRom, how will I be able to format the "C" drive or the drive that I want to be the "C" drive. I would think that I would have to have the CD drive working so that I can use the windows re-install disk??
I have a laptop too could I hook them up with USB and use the laptop to do the job?
