I turned my PC on from hibernate this morning to be awoken by a message saying that my network is now an "unidentified network" with no internet access.

fixed system restore... computer still will not connect.
by kylepianoman / September 10, 2011 1:52 PM PDT

Ok... that fixed system restore, but unfortunately the issue was no solved. My network icon switches between disconnecting, connecting, and then showing that it's connected to an unidentified network (no internet). Would reinstalling win7 as an upgrade possibly work? or could it be the ethernet port on my computer itself? if so how can I test this and what can I do to solve it

You don't fix it.

You trouble shoot it by trying a Live CD like UBUNTU. If that is ok, it's likely a software issue.
If not, you swap cables and cards.
