Monitor screen goes blank and processor locks up

by johndsmith / June 14, 2005 4:20 AM PDT

I am using windows xp home edition with a sony vaio RS610.
I am using a Systran language translator software that has worked fine for several months. When I click on the screen 'translate' button the monitor goes blank.
The processor remains 'on', but I am unable to do anything, can't even shut it down manually or operate the key board.
I unplug the machine and restart. Everything works fine except this software. I un-installed the software. When I attempt to re-install the same problem occurs in the process.

Have you reported this to Systran?

At least try their web site for any "updates" then look in your machines "EVENT VIEWER" for more clues.

I am running windows 7 ultra 64 and have a similar problem. My desktop computer is running fine. I leave the room for awhile and when I return the screen has a gray screen with green verticle lines. Keyboard doesn't respond, need to give it a hard shutdown. Seems like the computer is running. Don't see the HDD running. Where do I find the event viewer? I was thinking this has something to do with the screen saver but the screensaver runs.

So you have a Systran newer machine.

It's have to them to fix this under warranty.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm not using the Systran software at all. But my machine locks up similar to the original post.

So it's a Sony?

As this is an old post I can't guess if anything above applies to your new addition.

If nothing but the lockup is in common, create a new post and put all the details in your new post.

If it's in warranty, just have them fix it.
