Microsoft Works word processor not responding

When I receive an e-mail with a works 6.0 word processor attachment or I try to open a file saved on my computer they will not open, the computer just stops working then when I go to ctrl/alt/delete there is either nothing beside Microsoft Works Word Processor (but you can tell the computer has stopped working) or it says "not responding". It does the same thing when I try to open works from my desktop, however I can open works it I go to start/programs/microsoft works word processor, any ideas as to why I cannot open my files, attachments or works from my desktop. I am running Windows ME

Try this.

Find and delete the NORMAL.DOT file on your machine. Word will recreate it the next time it runs.

works word processor not responding

I have Windows vista home basic with works word. I've been having trouble with working documents going into recovery mode. I get messages saying the processor isn't responding. Windows looks for a solution but it keeps happening. Sometimes a certain document keeps popping up when I haven't asked for it. How do fix this?

Since your machine is on Vista.

I can't guess what version Works you have. Maybe it's not a version that runs on Vista. But in the future please pick forums that apply to what your machine is running.
