Microsoft Word-- Unable to click anywhere inside the text!?

by 4dm1n / June 26, 2007 4:14 AM PDT

I'm using Microsoft Word (Windows XP) and for some reason it won't let me click inside the document with my mouse. I can only type but I can't click ANYTHING at all! I just came home and experienced this problem. It worked just fine yesterday night. Can someone tell me what's wrong? Mabye I accidentally changed an option? Thanks

Is your mouse functioning?
by Kees Bakker / June 26, 2007 5:24 AM PDT

Can you click in the menu bar or the toolbar?
Does mouse work in Wordpad or Notepad, for example?
Does right click work? Does scrollwheel work?
How about Excel?

No known setting this, as far as I know. If you don't believe that do a System Restore back to yesterday morning.

Yes, they all work

For all of the questions you have asked me, I will respond with an "yes." The only problem is that when I try to click lets say, in the middle of my 2nd paragraph to try to add something, it won't let me do so. I can however, use my arrow keys to move to places where I want to go. Although that would take forever...

"Protected" Document?
by dougbilski / June 26, 2007 9:41 AM PDT

It sounds to me like someone may have "protected" the document. Did you create it yourself?

Try going to the Tools menu and choose "unprotect document" if you can. If you only see the choice "protect document" then this isn't your issue.

Yeah, Doug, you were correct about how my documents were "protected." Thanks for solving my problem! Now I can select with ease =]
