McAfee Firewall keeps shutting down

I'm running McAfee Security on a WIN 8 DELL desktop and the McAfee firewall keeps shutting down intermittently.

Would anyone have an answer to what may be causing this to happen?

I could not seem to find a definitive solution on their web site other than blaming everything but their software program. Most suggestions were that user should go through many hoops to troubleshoot malware issues.

Since malware is so widespread and a factor you bring up a good point. How to help those that need the scans done?

Be aware that there may be other factors such as the user installed more than one security suite but that begs another question. Is it time to change the security suites to pop up full screen and tell the user in no uncertain terms that's not supported?

• What have you tried thus far?

• When you ran scans (other than McAfee) to check for malware did they find anything?

- If you haven't done so already, you may have to jump through some of those hoops you referred to. It's the only way you're going to rule out malware as the cause.

• Do you have additional security software installed on the system? (Or remnants of "days past"?)

• Are there any error messages or alerts when the firewall shuts down?

• Are you experiencing any other "issues" with your OS?

• Did you run the Virtual Technician?

• Did you try uninstalling McAfee, followed by their MCPR tool? And then tried installing it again to see if it makes a difference?

By the way, I did find a thread at the McAfee forum where a member resolved their firewall issue. It doesn't mean it will resolve yours, but have a look here anyway. Make sure to read the second page.

To answer some of your questions:

WIN 8 "Action Center" Flag shows McAfee firewall has shut down, happens intermittently
I have not installed any other security software
No other OS issues found so far, NEW PC

Most posts I have seen state that despite spending quite some time trouble shooting the problem still occurs. That is why I'm reluctant to spend too much time on this issue.

I've has issues with McAfee in the past on other PC's but this came with this new PC.

I will check your link when I have a chance.

Usually, the anti-whatever that comes with a Dell PC are trial versions. So it seems you're not satisfied with it. That can happen with trials. That's what they are for.

Time to move on then. Two options in this specific case.
- Don't use the McAfee firewall but keep using (which means: paying) their antivirus. Trust the Windows firewall or install another one (like Comodo or ZoneAlarm, without using their antivirus).
- Totally uninstall McAfee and use other security software for all your needs.
