Max Length of Ethernet Cable

by pekoe / June 19, 2005 10:46 PM PDT

I want to increase the distance either between (1) my DSL modem and my router; or (2) the router and my desktop computer. Both obviously are connected with Ethernet cable. I want about 100 ft. Does it matter if either of the above are separated by that long a cable?

Thanks,

Barry

100BT and 10BT is 100 meters max, you will not have an issue unless you make your own cable. Very few get the wiring pairs correct.

Enternet cable distance

Any idea if it is OK to connect desktop to a router over CAT 5 cable at a distance of about 225 feet. Will there be a significant degradation of data transmission speed. Do we need to connect some sort of access point between these two.

Isn't that inside the spec?

Sorry but I'm missing why you ask since it's inside the spec.
