Mad Dog

Anybody heard anything about the Mad Dog LIGHTNING 56X CD-ROM Drive. I'm looking for internal CD-ROM that can read CDs quickly, for gaming and converting to mp3. Is the mad dog good or should I go another route. I already have a DVD/CD RW combo drive, but have another expansion bay.

I got a MD drive sometime back when they were on sale. I got my rebate and the drive has worked well into 1yr or more. However, I don't use it as much as I have in the past. I figure I burned about 80-90X and that's low to me. It's never shown a problem but then I tend to keep things in line. The only reason I brought it, because it was on sale, period. Until then, I never heard of MD drives and OfficeMax would exchange it if problems arose with its warranty period. I consider the time I had it and the amount of use, I've gotten my money's worth. I paid, $10 after rebate.

know what you'll get in that box. MadDog just puts their name on what they get, sometimes good, sometimes poor made units.

I look at cd reader units the same as floppy units.

Wait for your local merchant to have a sale, give them 10 bucks and it's over and done.

I have an old 50x unit, works fine.

If I Run benchmarks on the thing I have yet to see it come close to 50x speed.....maybe it's broke.

Beware of marketing hype......LIGHTNING
