Mac Book Pro making VERY loud spinning noise

by WNorr2014 / February 12, 2013 6:57 AM PST

My 2010 Mac Book Pro is making an extremely loud spinning type noise. Its almost like when you can hear the lawn mower in your neighbors yard. I can hear the fan when its on and it sounds normal. But when this sound is on the computer also drastically slows down. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I am a student and live on my laptop. Thanks!

I've heard that.

The less costly noise was a scrap of paper had found its way to the fan. Another loud spinning noise was a failing hard drive. That cost only a bit more.

Have you ever dropped it at all? Mine had a corner dented in a TINY bit but had it replaced under Applecare and since then I have same thing. If you press down on case top a bit you may see noise gets louder a bit. I think its something to do with hardrive turning or like stated the fan pressing on something. Not sure how a piece of paper would find its way in there, but ya never know.

One of these days I will bring it in to have them take a listen to it and report back. Its certainly not as loud as a lawnmower though so you may have it worse than me!
