Looking to buy a camcorder and need your help

by debvath / March 28, 2013 12:18 AM PDT

I want to find a new camcorder that uses an SD card. But I need to be able to use a card reader rather than hooking up the camcorder to a tv or computer to access my files. I have an old model Samsung that allows me to do that. But it is draining my batteries so it is time for a me one. I did buy a jvc last week and returned it to the store since the only way to play the videos was using the camera.

Keep in mind that few PCs today can play that content (more)

This is why I usually install VLC PLAYER (see google) if the owner does not want to install the software that comes with the new camera.

...he didn't specify yet what actual digital content the camera produces/writes on the SD card. Or did you mean to write that today's PCs (natively) cannot play back such content w/o a program like VLC or GOM player, etc.(?)

So far the odds are in my favor.

I think I've used VLC PLAYER for about a hundred different camcorders that write to SD cards so my bet would be all in.

Of those few hundred PCs, all of them didn't play the content natively but needed a player like VLC, a CODEC or the software from the camera maker to playback.

If a member (the OP) wants better answers they really need to tell more but consumers rarely know this matters. They want toast. They don't want to know about how toasters are made.
