Looking for a camera as good as the Canon PS A610 was

I had the A610 forever ago, but it's still my favorite camera I've ever had. It was fast and the quality was excellent. It was kinda big for a p&s, but it was worth carrying around. Lots of manual controls, but good in auto mode as well.

Would love to hear your recommendations.

Not looking for a SLR.

Panasonic LX7

The LX7 is better than the A610 in every way, and can often be found discounted to under $300 (unfortunately, you just missed a Groupon for $240, which ended yesterday).

Tough

A tough camera sounds appropriate.
Any of the waterproof cameras are classifies as tough.
They can handle rough treatment.
However they do not produce the very best images like the Panasonic LX7 does.
