Laptop without WebCam

by ajvigants / December 30, 2012 9:58 PM PST

I need a notebook which does NOT have a webcam . . . Last time I bought one (my T61 - 4 years ago) I was able to configure it without a webcam but now I cannot find anything from anyone that does not come with one.

I go into facilities for work that are very strict about no cameras - they may allow them in the administrative buildings, but my work requires that I enter operating areas and that means NO cameras. PERIOD.

Disabling it is not enough (what can be disabled can be re-enabled) so I really want something that has a bezel without even a hole suggesting a camera.

Anyone know where I can find one?

Ask your peers what they've done

I'd check with other employees to see what they've done, and I'd check with the security people to see if they'd accept a laptop that you've had the camera removed from if you bring the receipt for the work.

Good luck.

Problem solved

A lot of my work takes me overseas (often middle east) and convincing security (who often speak no English) that it is camera free every time I enter a plant is a non-starter.

Problem solved - just found that if you skip the "quick ship" options and configure a base unit, that you can skip the webcam on Dell Latitudes.

Good luck with that security. I once worked in a place where I couldn't go to the bathroom without an escort 'till I got my clearance. It's necessary, but it sure is a pain!
