Question

Laptop probs.. Does anyone know how to help

by chefspaz / July 10, 2013 6:43 AM PDT

My acer 5536 with windows 7 ultimate will only stay on in safe mode. I have reinstalled windows but after a few minutes it shuts down. I have to hard boot and go into safe mode to get it to work. it will work with networking as well.
It will stay in Safemode as long as I would like it.

Anyone please help.

Is this the factory OS? Or a custom install?

In other words, install the factory supplied OS.

the laptop was given to me as a gift, used, with new hard drive and with the windows 7 installed. it worked beautifully for over 2 years. then one day, the screen just went black. Like i said, it will stay in safe mode for as long as I like it to be. but in normal mode withing a few minutes it goes black or sometimes with a light blue or green screen. I tried a restore did virus scans prior to my wiping and reloading windows.. However, the hd was partitioned into two 250g. that I didn't change when reloading windows.

thanks

Back to the maker.

Windows installing has became a nightmare of installing the right drivers in the right order. While I have a generic routine, when you see such as above you know you want the factory restore media since it will get it right.

More to the point I'm seeing the makers charge to help owners do a custom install and finding forums pushing away from such installs as the owners get upset about how demanding Windows installs have become.

In other words, time to use the factory issued restore media.

There may be other issues such as a laptop that has never been cleaned. Your best clue is when you ask the owner about the last use of canned air and they ask what that is.
