Laptop is slowing down?

by darkdestiny7 / December 28, 2008 4:49 PM PST

I have recently upgraded my laptop RAM horsepower to 3GB. I now have 1 1GB 5300 DDR2 & 1 2GB of the similar type, both from Kingston. But even the upgrade did not seem to improve the performance of the system. I even experience hangs when I run applications like Firefox (not to mention especially when I have a number of windows open, which I know eats up a lot of RAM power), except for full-screen games that I have yet to touch since the upgrade.

Is this an incompatibility of the 2 RAM modules (due to the difference in the space (1GB & 2GB)), or is this something else? I hope to receive some advice on how to resolve this problem.

Re: list of processes
by Kees Bakker / December 29, 2008 5:08 PM PST

I've got 59 processes here at the moment (including Outlook mail, Norton antivirus, a webserver and a Java Development tool). And I've got 14 items on my Startup list (I just unchecked 4, so that will be 10 active at the next boot).

Maybe it helps to have a good look at all those processes to see if you REALLY need them running. Might make a difference.
