Question

JBOD 4-6 bay external enclosures: Any good ones?

by jasta13 / February 23, 2013 9:04 PM PST

They all seem to be priced $100-200, and they all seem to be of low quality, with many bad reviews. Are there any good ones? I would like one with usb 3.0 and esata, if possible. Is Mediasonic any better or worse than the others?

Thanks

What was bad?

All seem to have heat problems if you don't tweak the design a little. Some bad reviews complain that not every byte is available.

All of them seem OK and work so nothing stands out.

It's not JBOD but what about the Drobo?

Drobo is nice, but to get usb 3.0, it is about $500 more, and a lot more complicated to learn and use.

Odd. I found the Drobo to be the easy one.

Maybe the fact you can add and remove drives made it seem more complicated? That is, since the others could not, then they would be less complicated?

I think that clears the air a bit. You want a cheap USB 3.0 JBOD box. Go get one.
