Question

Is TechTool Pro a useful/essential tool?

Every now and then, I get an offer from the manufacturer of TechTool Pro of a sale on that product. I don't know whether it is a useful tool for computer maintenance, an essential one or just OK or of no great use. I have Disk Warrior, and of course, Disk Utility, which came with the Mac software.

I have both a G4 Sawtooth desktop Mac (rarely used) running Tiger and a Macbook laptop running Leopard. Both run well, although I do have the spinning beach ball pretty often on the laptop. From time to time, I run disk permissions and verify the disk in Disk Utility. If those are enough, along with Disk Warrior, I shall forgo TechTool Pro. Or may there is something else I should be getting?

I have never had TTP fix anything for me

it is more of a display type thing that will tell you there is a problem but, as I said, I have never been able to repair a drive with it.

It does other things too, and is quite good at them.

As a tool in your arsenal, it's fine. It goes between Disk Warrior and Disk Utility in order of precedence
