Using that DVD as a floppy drive didn't work in other machines or OSes. Be sure you are not going after that old bug.
But good luck in your efforts as I feel for you as HP walked on my warranty. I think they pay a small price every time I share the story.
I have had numerous problems with my HP Pavilion dv7 Laptop. It is apparent many others have also. My first problem was the system would delete data from my DVD discs. HP blamed me first. The second time blamed the dvd disc mfg. The third time the HP tech told me there is a problem and the engineers do not know if it is the BIOS, the DVD Drive, The motherboard , Firmware ?
This PC should have been recalled. We tried everything.
Other problems = black screens, No Boot Mgr , Blue Screens , Faulty Keyboards .
