hp pavilion dv9700 has stop recognising dvd wrighter drive

by demathia / December 15, 2009 4:45 PM PST

my hp dv9700 laptop has suddenly stopped recognising my dvd wrighter drive. i was told it was the drivers, but others say that it's the wrighter, but i removed the wrighter and then placed it back in the slot and then it started powering on, and i was able to open the tray useing the eject button, but it would still remain unrecogniseable. so then i restarted the pc but when the pc came back on the wrighter failed to do the same...

i need to know what the possible problems could be an how to rectify them

Set the bios to boot from CD/DVD and see if it can.

I use my UBUNTU CD (see google) but only for this test. I do not install UBUNTU.

If it fails to boot then it's hammer time (repair shop.)
