From the sound of it, you've got a Pre-POST failure, and the bit about the possible changing of the LED color on the power button is a potentially good clue. I'd call or email HP support and see what they have to say about the possible color combos for the power LED. That might help you narrow your search. Of course if the unit is under warranty, don't even bother, just take it to the nearest repair shop that can do HP warranty work, let them sort it out. If I had to guess, I'd say it sounds like a bad caps (google it) issue, but I'd like to have a bit more to go on before fully committing to that diagnosis.
I have a HP G71-442NR laptop that suddenly stopped working. The screen wont turn on at all, and it wont send a signal to an external monitor. I hear fans and i see led lights, but the screen wont turn on. i've tried holding the power button for 30 seconds without the power cord and battery, nothing worked. tried resetting the RAM, didn't work. Tried resetting the harddrive, nothing.
The power button also takes a while to respond. i have to hold it to turn it on and turn it off. And I could almost swear the power button lit up blue before this happened, now it lights up white.
there's also no sounds from windows starting, no beeps or anything, just fans.
Wont respond to keyboard even if i hold a key to get it to try and beep for a stuck key. Caps lock key also wont light up when pressed.
The laptop was not overheating before all this, and still doesn't.
Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?
