Found this adapter a great help at times:
Small cost and readily attaches various HDs and others to a laptop or desktop with USB port.
My friend is getting deployed to Afghanistan in a month and has asked me to look at their laptop, but I may have gotten myself in a little deeper than planned. When its started up i get a message saying that \windows\system3config\system file is missing or corrupt. I did some reading and found that i could possibly slave the hard drive from their laptop to my pc, or laptop, replace the file with a copy of possibly mine? or a copy of one of their previous recovery points. i dont think ill have any issues removing the hard drive, or once i get it all connected, but am a litte worried about connecting the hd to my pc or laptop. i have little time to do all of this in, but am willing to invest what ive got. What im getting at after all this ranting is i need to know what options i have for connecting the hd to my pc or laptop, and what items i need to purchase or use to make the connections. I'm also wondering about how to do the "jumper" pin ive seen talked about. I was also wondering if it would be possible, or practical, to just remove the hd from my external hd, hook up the bad laptops hd, and connect it to the good laptop.
Alright some info:
bad laptop: hp pavilion dv600, running xp
pc: older, running ME
good laptop: hp pavillion dv200, running xp media center
