How to delete virus in zip file?

by Stan Chambers / July 10, 2004 1:10 AM PDT

Winxp home, 2.4 ghz, 256mb ddr, AVG free.
I have a zipped file on this machine which contains a Klez virus, according to AVG scan.
AVG cannot delete the file. How should I deal with this?
Should I open the file releasing the virus, then delete, or just leave it be?
Or is there some other method?
Thanks for any advice.

If you research a litle about the PKZIP command line, then you can see it has a way to delete files in a zip file.

Ernie,

If you don't mind deleting the entire Zip file, have you tried starting the computer in "Safe Mode", then deleting the file manually??? (Navigate to the file in Explorer, RIGHT click on the file, choose "Delete".) If that doesn't work, while still in "Safe Mode", can you open a command prompt, then delete the file using commands?

If this zip file is an attachment to an e-mail message, simply delete the message.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply.
The file seems to be some downloaded zip file, which is of no importance. Probably from an e-mail.
Thanks for the tips, I'll give it a try.
