How to connect PS2 to LCD tv

by MsSteffee / November 24, 2006 11:20 AM PST

Hi! I am new to all this so please forgive my lack of knowledge.

I just bought a 32 inch LCD tv. I want to connect my PS2 to it and get the best picture quality possible when playing my games.

The tv has all the major connections (HDMI, RGB, S-video, Yellow/white/red).

Can someone please tell me the best way to connect the PS2 to the tv.

Thanks in advance!

Since we may not be familiar with the PS2. . .

and it's outputs. . .

What outputs does the PS2 have? The quality is shown below, from best to worst:

1.) HDMI or DVI
2.) Component - red, green, blue cable
3.) S-video
4.) Composite video - yellow connector.

Your choice.

The two, red/white is for sound.

My son's PS2 has only one video-out plug. The system came with a cable that plugs into the PS2 and ha RCA video/audio plugs on the other end. You need to buy a special adapter cable to get S-Video or Component output, but it can be done. The PS2 does not have HDMI because it was built before that video format became available, and it doesn't output an HD signal anyways so HDMI would be useless. The PS2 does have a fiber-optic audio connection, so it connects into any receiver that has fiber-in for audio, and this will let you hear 5.1 surround audio, which many games are mixed in.

buy a set of COMPONENT cables
by masterying01 / November 25, 2006 1:56 PM PST

make sure the cables are made for a ps2. one end is a proprietary (sorry, i can't spell) plug for the ps2 and the other side is a RED/BLUE/GREEN set of plug for the picture PLUS a RED/WHITE plug for the audio. u should be able to find a ps2 branded (or sony branded one) for $20-30. after that, go into your ps2 SETUP MENU and turn ON PROGRESSIVE SCAN in the video settings and set the OUTPUT MODE to COMPONENT...also change the RATIO to 16:9.

Light bulbs you shouldn't buy

There are plenty of dimmable LED light bulbs, but make sure you don't buy the ones that flicker when you dial them down.
