How to connect a DVD recorder to a labtop?

by spottedeagle1990 / January 4, 2009 7:34 AM PST

I have Dell Latitude D630 Labtop and was wondering if there was a way to record what appears on my labtop screen to a DVD using an external DVD recorder device. I want to make a few walk through dvd's of how to use certain programs on my computer, and making a dvd would be the most basic and simplistic way to follow. I'd just like to hit record on my DVR and for it to just record what I do on my computer.. is this possible? I have a Toshiba D-R410 DVD recorder with HDMI capability. Thanks.

Oh by the way, It looks like I may need a VGA/component cable since my labtop seems to only have a VGA port. Even so, I don't know if this would even work.

Screen capture software

You will have to buy a VGA-to-HDMI or s-video or something to do that;
or you can connect your laptop to an LCD or Plasma TV with the VGA input and and then connect the video output of the TV to your video input of the recorder.
But it would be much easier if you download a screen capture software like HiperCam and then you record the video capture of your computer screen in to a DVD with Nero or any similar software.
