by DZsamsung / March 15, 2013 3:22 AM PDT

Need some help connecting to a new TV with HDMI inputs. I have an alder Sony soround system that is RCA on the output, trying to connect to the new TV that only has HDMI inputs. Is there a converter, if yes is that the way to go?

What's the model number of your old surround system? And why aren't you going *out* from the HDTV back to your surround system(?)

Is there a cable or satellite box involved in this mix?

the TV is UN55ES8000, the speaker home system is SONY DAV-S500.
The signal comes from Time Warner Cable scientific Atlanta cable box.
The simplest way out from the TV to the speaker system.

Thank you.

In that case, you are connecting it wrong

You should be going from Cable box to Sony HT system with an audio cable, and also and HDMI from the cable box to the HDTV. The Sony has all the connections you need besides RCA/Analog. Trying hooking it all up like the following:

SA Box (HDMI out) --> (HDMI in) Samsung HDTV
"" "" (digital optical or digital coaxial out) --> (digital optical or digital coaxial in) Sony DAV-500

Thank you, you are saying the cable box should be connected to the receiver not the TV
The TV states a different set up, stating to pick the external speaker set up, if you are not using the TV speakers. How will the speakers to the cable box work?

You don't connect speakers to a cable box

They always connect to an amp or receiver. Separate external speakers can sometimes be used with an HDTV though. Ignore that part since you already have the proper surround setup.
