How do import data from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail

by tazio / September 9, 2009 7:17 AM PDT

Operating system is Windows XP Pro. I am currently using Outlook Express 6 for email. I would like to change to Windows Live Mail. I have read how to setup my accounts in Win Live Mail (haven't done it yet) but how do I move my mail data (messages, contacts)from OE to Win Live Mail.

One wonders . . .

why you're changing. Hopefully you have better luck than I running W7 RC. Migrating from XP Pro OE6 to Live Mail in W7 made me more grateful that I do not intend to upgrade to W7 when it comes out.

I wanted to change to see what is new and also because I had seen so many glowing statements about Win Live Mail.

Win Live Mail is running fine with XP Pro. It is taking me a while to get it setup the way I want and to get used to the different layout. Import from OE6 worked great (thanks to your tip.)

I have a virtual machine with Win 7 RC and Win 7 Enterprise running but I haven't tried Win Live Mail there yet. What kind of trouble are you having with WLP? Also, why don't you want to upgrade to Win 7?

I know you are knowledgable, having seen your posts over quite a time, so that makes me curious.

Correction to my post of a few minutes ago: The tip on importing data from OE to WLM was from Kees. Sorry for the error.

I need to do something similar on a fully updated(non-SP3) WXP system.

Did you encounter any problems with the concurrent residency of OE6 and WLM, during the migration period?
