How do I add a folder of music to iTunes 11?

by foreverguitarman / December 3, 2012 4:51 PM PST

I used to be able to select an entire folder of a specific artist including the art work and now all i see is the option to add file to library. What the hell APPLE, if it broke, don't fix it...

How do I add a folder of music to iTunes 11? - Solved!!!!

A little bit of digging through google and I found what I required to restore at least some of the features to the new iTunes 11 that I use and require. Like the ability to add a complete folder to your iTunes library is not accessible unless you restore the menu bar at the top left corner.

You can restore the menu bar with Ctrl-B, or with a (right click) of the tiny menu at top left and then selecting (show menu bar). That will restore access to File > Add Folder to Library. The menu bar will also show up if you tap the Alt key. Or you could just drag and drop a folder onto the iTunes window.

Also you might find this link very helpful if you are new to iTunes or what to navigate this new, fully polished, and I might add, favorable version of iTunes to date:

I officially retract my statement in my previous post, "iTunes 11 SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", because I was wrong and maybe just a little irratated that things were not working as they were previously before the update to 11.

Hope this helps

I made an account just to tell you how grateful I am. I was really getting tired of Apple but you just saved me hours of work on something I love! I recently switched computers and iTunes automatically upgraded but I must say this makes EVERYTHING easier and you are the first (and only) post to help me with this!

This used to work in previous versions:

Try importing an mp3 file with a period in it (apart from the one before the file extension)

e.g. 01. Shaw Taylor Joanne - Going Home.mp3

It won't do anything - or rather it will ignore the file as it assumes it is not a valid audio file
Remove the . after 01 and it works ...

Found that by trial and error .... so now I'm going to do a DIR /S *.*.mp3 from my Music library root folder to identity other 'problem' files that iTunes 11 can not handle
